David's Tea Relaxed Collection

Hello all you wonderful people!

Where my tea lovers at? :)

David's Tea has literally been my best friend for the past few months. For those of you who don't know, David's Tea is a Canadian tea store that sells a variety of loose leaf teas. They do have a few stores in the U.S. but they also sell their teas online to Canada and the U.S. Whenever I'm at the mall, I always stop in and sample a new tea. Recently, I went in and bought their Relaxed Collection.

Fashion - Who else has been loving skorts this season?

Hello fashionistas,
I've been loving this skort trend lately, so I had to share some pics from boohoo.com that I've been loving. When I was in England modelling, I was so luck to have Boohoo as one of my regular clients. They were amazing to work for and I can't wait to have a chance to work with them again. By far the trend I noticed emerging the most while modelling this season was the Asymmetrical Skort.

After I saw Kendall Jenner wearing this one (in the following picture), I fell in love with them. They can be such a staple piece and add a little bit of edge to any outfit. Although she's wearing a somewhat plain top and minimalistic heels, she still looks chic because the skort has a really cool vibe.

Web Wednesday | The Bullying Experiment

Hello lovely people! This Web Wednesday we're here to present an extremely compelling look at the root of bullying in America. This experiment was conducted by Yousef Erakat of FouseyTUBE. check out his channel when you have a minute!

Bullying is an extremely prevalent issue in today's society, and is something that happens all over the world every single day. It is an issue that is very important to me, and I'm so happy Yousef decided to document what happens when people choose to be bystanders.

If you witness any type of bullying incident occurring, whether it be physical, verbal, or cyber, please make sure to intervene if possible. If the incident poses a threat to your own safety, please be sure to report it to an adult (if you're in school) or other figures of authority. Bullying is something that should not be ignored. As quoted in the video, and by my father on many occasions:

"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor"
- Desmond Tutu

So please remember to be kind, help everyone you can, and love always.

Have a great Wednesday!

Lipstick Love - Shocking Coral!

Hey guys! Recently I went to the drugstore and bought a couple lipsticks. I wanted to share this one with you. I've always stayed far away from bright lipsticks because I assumed they never went well with my skin tone. However, a lot of make up artists recently started using some "coral" coloured lipsticks on me and telling me it actually complemented my skin. Finally I decided to go out and try it myself and I loved it!

I know it's not exactly a winter colour, it's definitely more for summer, but I've only just discovered it and I thought I'd share it now! I bought #870 - Shocking Coral from the Maybeline Colour Sensations Lipsticks, and this colour is the the new Vivids line.

Trend Trunk and Blogger Fashion Week!

Hey dolls,
Last summer I had the awesome opportunity to work for a cool company called Trend Trunk! I never got to do a post about them before so I figured I'd do one now - and tell you about how GNL is working with them this month.

First things first. What is Trend Trunk? Well, Trend Trunk is like an online consignment store, where you and sell your unwanted clothing/jewelry/shoes, and also buy from other people at an affordable price! It sounds a lot like ebay right? WRONG. Because of TT's amazing shipping policy, members never have to worry about buying stamps or paying weird amounts for shipping. A simple $8 shipping fee is added to any item posted, and when the buyer purchases an item, the seller gets a pre-made shipping label they can print out and use to ship the item.

Music Monday | Midnight Memories

Hello awesome people! This Music Monday we will be featuring One Direction’s highly anticipated third album, “Midnight Memories”.

Now, it’s no secret that Sonia and I are extremely extremely extremely enamoured with this band. However, this is not the only reason we’ve decided to feature them this week. After the release of this album, tons of people that wouldn’t have come within ten feet of a One Direction CD expressed their genuine appreciation for the boys’ new sound. So if One Direction isn't your thing, give em a chance! They're definitely going to surprise you.

Travels | Paris Day Two

On the second day, I decided to stop sulking around and just be happy that I was lucky enough to be in the gorgeous city! It’s really inexpensive to travel around so I thought I should try to hit up as many spots as I could before I had to catch my train again. The hotel receptionist gave me a pamphlet and on it had all the tourist sites and the nearest metro stations, so then it was just a matter of looking at the map and seeing where was easiest to go to in the time that I had.

Again it was horrible rain and wind, which sucked – but I tried to make the most of it. It was hard walking around with my luggage everywhere too, but I had to check out of the hotel so I had no choice. Again making me want to go back for a longer time where I could actually explore without lugging 3 bags around.

Travels | Another quick trip, this time à Paris!

Hello friends! Yet again, I went on a little trip somewhere! (Modeling seems to be good for that..) This time though, it wasn’t to work! Last week I found out my temporary work Visa was expiring, and I had to leave England for 24 hours in order to get an extension, since I’m scheduled to be here for longer. One of my agents suggested going to Paris on the train, and I thought: why not?

I speak French and I had never been to Paris before. Also, I’m not yet represented in Paris so I also contacted my mother agency and got them to set up appointments for me with agencies there who wanted to see me. So I made sure I was being productive while being there as well!

Music Monday | Ariana Grande

Hi! Welcome to Music Monday! This week, our feature artist is the mind blowing-ly talented Ariana Grande.

Kay seriously, words can’t express how much we love this girl. We started watching Victorious (don’t judge) about a year ago, so we first saw her as the not-so-bright red headed cutie, Cat Valentine.  Shortly after, we heard her first single, Put Your Hearts Up, and I wasn’t sold. We thought she was another “Nick Kid” who got a record deal. So I went on her YouTube account to get a better idea of her vocal talent and let me tell you, I have never in my life eaten my words so quickly. The girl has pipes like you wouldn’t believe. Her cover of Mariah Carey’s Emotions was on repeat for weeks. Needless to say, I felt uber stupid...

Travels | My short trip to Spain!

Travels | A quick trip to Spain!

Hi guys! I went to Spain a while ago, and I did a vlog about it but I didn’t do a blogpost – so I figured I’d do one :). I was in Spain shooting for a UK company called Littlewoods. They’re a huge awesome company in the UK and they’ve been around for decades. In Spain we were shooting for their catalogue and I shot all sportswear. It was awesome!

To be specific we shot in the island of Mallorca, which is the biggest island of Spain. I had never been to Spain before at all, so I was super excited to be there for work where everything was paid for! I had never been on this kind of job before so I felt very blessed to have the opportunity.

S'mores Ice Cream Sandwiches

Hiiii loves!

I was on tumblr and I found a picture of these s'mores ice cream sandwiches. Unfortunately there were no instructions on how to make them but that didn't stop me from trying. A few weeks ago, I got some ingredients I thought would be needed and tried it out. They actually taste so good! It's a little messy to eat but I love it :) **Sidenote: I used a 9x13 baking tray and it fit 15 square graham crackers with space on the side, so I would recommend using an 8x8 baking tray. That should fit 9 square graham crackers perfectly.**

Travels | New York, New York: Day Two!

Hello again loves! This is part two of our two-day weekend in the beautiful city of NYC!

After waking up from the previous night out, we grabbed some much needed coffee and tea and headed for the 9/11 memorial. It wasn’t far from our hotel, so we took the opportunity to walk through the city. Once we got there, we went through a few security check points, and were let in.  The memorial was absolutely beautiful. Seeing the two waterfalls, and the surrounding metal plates engraved with the names of every person who lost their lives that day evoked an indescribable feeling. Despite being in the middle of the bustling city, the area that contained the memorial was quietly calm. On certain names we saw white roses, which we later found out, meant it was that person’s birthday. I thought that was such a beautiful thing. If you’re in New York, this is definitely a place to visit. To be in a place of such historical significance to not only Americans, but to people around the world, was amazing.

Once we left the memorial, we opted to do more sight seeing and hit the places everyone in the group wanted to see. First stop, Wall Street. It was crazy being on the infamous Wall Street, and looking at the actual New York Stock Exchange.  We went looking for the famous Wall Street bull, but it was nowhere to be found (in our vicinity at least). After Wall Street we went to see the Brooklyn Bridge, and from there made it to Grand Central Station. That place was absolutely beautiful. The lighting, the amazing artwork on the high ceilings, the marble, everything about it was breathtaking. Seeing the famous clock in the center was pretty awesome too. I wanted to find the whispering corner, a corner where you can whisper and have someone hear you on the other side, but didn’t. So if you’re ever at Grand Central, find the whispering corner!

DIY | LIP SCRUB!

Hey dolls! Over here in England, I've noticed that my lips get really dry, really fast and they start to burn and get discoloured! I started to google lip scrubs and such, and then I found that in stead of buying one it's so easy to make one for less than $4!

Travels | New York, New York!

Hello, Hello! Welcome to another installment of our travel series. This one’s a bit late, but better late than never!

Last month, a group of friends and I took a lovely little weekend trip to NYC. It’s my best friend’s dream city, and I’ve always wanted to go, so considering her birthday had just passed, we decided to round up some of our friends and take a little vacay!

We left on the night of October 11th, by Greyhound, and after 12 hours of stories, sleep, unflattering pictures, one late night truck stop bathroom run (which seemed more like a prison bathroom), one stop over, and one bus driver exchange, we finally got to the city.

Revamp your room: Ikea PAX Wardrobe

Hellllllo darlings,

This fall I decided to make a bedroom in the basement for me because 7 people residing on one floor was getting a tad crowded. We cleared out a section of the basement and I'm almost all moved in. The nice thing about the basement is that my room is a lot more spacious. However, since it wasn't designed for a bedroom, there is no closet space. So I went looking online for wardrobes that would fit all of my clothes and be cost friendly.

I decided to get the Ikea PAX Wardrobe and it is the best decision I have made. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend ($700) but I like it because it's completely customizable.

So how the PAX wardrobes work, you first choose the frame for the wardrobe. You can choose between 4 colours of wood: white, white stained oak, birch effect and black brown. There are also 3 different sizes: 50cm, 75cm, and 100cm wide. I went simple and did two white frames that were 75cm wide, 58cm deep and 201cm tall. The next step is choosing your doors. You could choose sliding or hinged doors. You also had the choice between wood, glass, coloured glass doors, frosted, or mirrored doors or a combination of them. I opted for the mirrored sliding doors. Lastly, ikea has a variety of interior organizers to choose from. Different types of shelves, clothes rails, drawers, shoe organizers and pant hangers are available. I kept it simple and got the interior chest of drawers, three clothes rails and two grey glass shelves.

This is what you would see online or in stores:
*disclaimer* we do not own these images, all images taken from ikea.com

Web Wednesdays | Instavideo or Vine?

I was one of those people who thought Vine would completely fail when Instagram Video started. But then someone reminded me, it’s not like Facebook failed when MySpace started to get similar features. It seems like, without knowing it, many outlets and mediums of social media are fulfilling certain purposes in their own unique ways.

I’m a huge social media nerd, and I tend to compartmentalize my life. Naturally, when Instagram Video came about I thought, “Oh crap! But I always keep images and video separate…what do I do now?”  I had tried other “video” type mediums before such as Keek, but they just didn’t suit me. I thought I would immediately fall in love with InstaVideo and fall off of Vine – but it didn’t work that way.

New Fall Shows

Hi loves!

Have I ever mentioned that school is super annoying? Well it is. It's also a tad stressful and tiring at times. One way I like to unwind after a long day of classes and assignments is catching up on my favourite shows. Some new shows started this fall and I decided to give them a try so I can have some new story lines to fill my otherwise boring week. Explaining the concepts of shows is a lot easier to do in person, so try to follow along and I'll try my best to be clear, concise and to make sense.

REIGN
Set in the 1500s, "Reign" follows the life of Mary, the soon to be Queen of Scotland. To form an alliance between Scotland and France, Mary and Francis, the Prince of France, have been arranged to get married. Mary is then sent to France, with her friends as company, but things soon start to get complicated. There are people who don't want her to be married to Francis, and even those who want to harm her. During these hard times, she finds herself attracted to the half-brother of her soon to be husband, who also seems to return her feelings. The Queen of France is overlooking everything, trying to get her way and there is an unknown presence in the castle working against her. With death threats, sabotage, mistresses, seers and strange allies, the castle is becoming stranger each day. In addition to everything happening with the Royals in the castle, there's something strange and possibly magical going on in the forest behind the castle, making things even more interesting for the citizens of the kingdom.

Music Monday | Fall Albums

Hello Dolls! Ugh school has been keeping us SO BUSY! But we're back with a brand new Music Monday. This week we're not featuring a song, or an artist in particular. Since it's the time of year for scarves, and cozy sweaters we figured we'd do a post on two albums that are perfect for Fall!

Fall is the time where we tend to ditch those upbeat, feel-good party anthems for more mellow, calming, cozy music. These are the albums that remind us of pumpkin carving, late walks through the leaves, warm drinks and cool nights.

The first album up is Taylor Swifts' most recent release, "Red".

Web Wednesdays | Breaking Bad Cast Sings "Bye Bye Bye"

Hey guys!

Sorry we haven't been able to post lately, school is keeping me pretty busy at the moment. On one of my many study breaks, I found this video on YouTube from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Thought it could brighten your day! They edited clips from Breaking Bad to the tune of NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye". Being a fan of NSYNC, I loved this!

If you want to skip over the monologue and go straight to the song, you can start the video at 1:05.

For those of you who don't watch Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, you should really start, he's hilarious! Feel free to share any other videos you've found lately. We would love to see them :)

Until next time!

Web Wednesdays | #Hashtag

Hi! Hope you guys are having a great Wednesday! Speaking of Wednesdays, here at Glasses N' Lashes we've decided to start "Web Wednesdays", a segment where we feature cool videos that we find from around the web!

This weeks video features Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon, who happen to be my favourite duo since....ever, really. Justin was on Fallon last night, for Timberlake Tuesday (which I think should just be a holiday every Tuesday to celebrate JT's awesomeness), and they did a little skit called "#Hashtag" that shows us what a twitter conversation would look like in real life!

It's absolutely hilarious, and TimberFallon is absolutely gold (as always).  #Enjoy!

Side Note: If you haven't seen TimberFallon's "History of Rap" bits, check em out!

Music Monday | Royals

Hello all! Sorry, I know it's been a while. School has been taking over my life currently (I'm writing this as I sit waiting for my lab to start), BUT I'm back with another Music Monday! This week, we're featuring the song Royals, by Lorde.

I've heard this song 1080973 times on the radio, and I've always found myself singing along, but I never knew what it was called. Then a couple weeks ago I "Shazam'd" it, and didn't remember the tag until today. Now it's on repeat.... so I figured I'd make it this week's Music Monday feature!

Lorde (real name Ella Yelich-O'Connor) is a 16 year old singer, yes you read that right she's 16, from New Zealand. She released her first EP, The Love EP, in March and is set to release her debut album this month. Enjoy! (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorde)

Have a great Monday!

London Fashion Week | My first show ever!

Hi friends! This post is going to be all about my first experience walking in LONDON FASHION WEEK! If you haven't been following my vlogs -- YOU SHOULD: youtube.com/liveshiv

Recently, I was booked for a show just a couple hours before it started. The clothing line is called PPQ (ppqlondon.com), and it's an awesome high end brand here in London. I've never walked in a fashion week show before, and I had only done one runway show before this so I was SUPER nervous.

I never saw myself as a runway girl, but I started going to the castings here in London just to try it out, and before I knew it my agency told me I had more options than any girl in the agency! I was super excited about this show because it was an ON SCHEDULE show, which means it was for a big designer. There are also OFF SCHEDULE shows which showcase smaller designers or collections.

I have a vlog that I filmed during this experience, but I thought I'd share some tidbits of photos here! :)

Music Monday | What Makes You Beautiful - Cover by 'The 1975'

Happy Monday (even though there aren't ever really happy Mondays are there...)! For this week's Music Monday we're featuring a cover of "What Makes You Beautiful", the hit made famous by english cuties 'One Direction', by a band called 'The 1975'.

Now, I have a confession. My sister & I have recently become extremely enamoured and charmed by the boys of One Direction (yes, we saw 'This is Us'...). So when my best friend showed me this cover, I was even more stoked about it.

'The 1975' is a band from the UK who just released their debut album, "The 1975", on September 2nd. They also have four previously released EP's, so check em' out! And while you're doing that, enjoy this beautiful beautiful beautiful cover!

Have an awesome Monday loves!

The Best Chicken Burgers You Will Ever Make

Heeeeey guys!

I know you all know how to make burgers, but honestly you haven't had chicken burgers until you have tried Janet and Greta's Chicken Burgers. They are chicken with fire-roasted vegetables and it tastes amazing! They are healthy, full of flavour and so delicious! All you need to do is bake it for 20 minutes and you're ready to go! If you're not a fan of eating burgers, they also taste really great cut up and put into a wrap. My suggestion to make your burger even better? Add jalapeño havarti cheese! I'm also a huge fan of BBQ sauce on my burgers, tastes soooo good :)

SURVIVING 'BACK TO SCHOOL'

Heylllooo! Alright, it's that time again kids... Time for all of us to head Back To School... ugh I know right, we'd all rather be on a beach somewhere. But, unfortunately summer is over and it's time to hit the books.

With that in mind, we thought we'd throw together a little list of things to make your Back to School experience a bit easier this school year. Enjoy!

Music Monday | We Own the Night

For this week's Music Monday we're featuring The Wanted's song "We Own the Night"!

I haven't been a huge fan of this band so far, however I was watching their show "The Wanted Life" on E! one night and saw them perform this song. I thought, "hey, that was a cute song". Then the video came out, and I listened to the song multiple times. The melody in the chorus is what caught me. It's so nice to sing along to. Plus, it's one of those songs that you want to yell at the top of your lungs when you're drunk with your friends LOL Who doesn't love those songs?!

Music Monday | I'm Wanderin'

This week's Music Monday is a cover called "I'm Wanderin'" by Kristina Train. It's a different take on the song, originally done by the legendary Aretha Franklin.

I first heard this version, like many other people, in the Lexus ads on tv (the ones with the mannequins...), and NEEDED to know who sang it. It has such a classic vibe, and the tone in her voice is so so so beautiful. The original is full of soul, but this cover is a really beautiful take on it. Enjoy!

Here is the original, for those of you who haven't heard it!

DocYOUmentary Series - Post 1!

DocYOUmentary Series!
Hey everyone,
I’ve always been very obsessed with documentaries – I just love learning about things visually. Lately I’ve been watching a few really good ones so I figured I’d start a mini-series on it. So for the first post I’ll mention the last few that I’ve been watching, incase you want to get started on a documentary binge like me! And each post after this one will be basically a short review of a new one that I’ve watched. Hope you enjoy!

Quick and Easy Flatbread Pizza

helllllo my loves!

Eating the same thing every day for dinner can get quite boring, so we've been trying to find healthy alternatives that also taste good. Last week we made flatbread pizzas for dinner and they were so delicious we thought we would share! What I like about the flatbread we bought is that they are only 100 calories each, are high in fiber, low in carbs and have 9g of protein. So not only are they yummy, but they are healthy too!

TO BUY:
Flatout Flatbread Multigrain with flax
Jar of Pizza Sauce
Bag of Shredded Cheese (or grate your own cheese)
Various Vegetables
Feta Cheese (if desired)

Revamp Your Room: Throw Pillows

HENCE, this instalment of our Revamp Your Room Series: Throw Pillows. I love having tons of pillows on my bed. However, the cute throw pillows with monograms or quotes are all pretty much around the $25-$30 mark... SO I obviously decided to just make some myself! and here's how you can too :)

             - Cushion Cover: $4.99 IKEA
             - Cushion: $4 IKEA
             - Fabric Paint

Save Up the Bucks!

Hello lovelies!

In the upcoming months & years Sonia and I want to take a lot of trips! I am going to New York City with friends for my best friends birthday in October, we of course want to visit our sister in LONDON (check out her vlogs here! miss you shiv!), go to disneyland, and then VEGA$ with the girls for Sonia's 21st birthday!

Needless to say, that's going to cost a LOT of money. a lot. and with us being students, and also loving to go out with friends & online shop, keeping our money can be kind of a hard task sometimes LOL! THEREFORE, we have resorted a little old school trick that we think will help us, and maybe you guys as well.

I MOVED TO LONDON! + Just started vlogging!

Hey darlings,

Guess what? I MOVED TO LONDON! Very sudden, I know. I got this amazing opportunity through my modelling agency, as well as an agency here in London, to come here and model for a while! I'm so excited to be here and I'm so sorry I didn't post sooner. I've already been very busy so I haven't had a tonne of time to take good pictures but I'll add the ones that I've had so far, and I'll always be updating with new posts.

In other news, I STARTED VLOGGING! I thought, what better way to capture all of my memories and also be able to share them with everyone! This way I don't need to update everyone separately and you guys can actually experience it with me! I know that I'm so lucky to have this opportunity, and I want to be able to take everyone on this journey with me! I'll try to always do blog posts along with each video, or at least update vlogs where I can also post the videos here to make them easy to find.

So you’re planning to throw a quick party together (in two days maybe?), and you need some décor on a budget. Again, Glasses N’ Lashes is here to give you some quick and inexpensive party décor ideas.

BANNER

What you’ll need:
·      Plain scrap book paper – as many as the number of letters in your word
·      Glitter scrap book paper – as many as the number of letters in your word
·      Glue Gun
·      Twine
·      Clothes Pins
·      Loose Glitter
·      Mod Podge
·      Wedge Brush
·      Scissors

You can get all of these items at your local craft store, like Michaels.

How to Plan A Party in 2 Days

HELLO beautiful people! So it’s nearing the end of summer (BOOOOOOOOO) and everyone’s gearing up to get back to school, internships, or whatever else floats your boat.

“BUT WHAT IF WE STILL WANT TO HANG OUT TOGETHER ONE LAST TIME?!?!” Have no fear, Glasses N’ Lashes is here to help you with all your last minute summer bash needs ;)

DAY 1

FIRST THING TO DO: ORGANIZE! Make a word document of everything related to your party! Also, find a group of people to help you! I enlisted the help of my sister, the Guest of Honour’s brother, my best friend, my cousin & his fiancée. You could do it solo if you’d like, BUT gathering a group will make the decision making, décor making and food making a whole lot easier LOL

This document will include:
·      Guest List
·      Venue/ Venue Options
·      Date & Time
·      Food & Beverages
·      Decorations
·      Anything else pertaining to your specific situation

What's in my beach bag? + Beach Outfit!

Hey guys! We're going to the beach tmrw for the first time ALL summer so I'm SUPER excited! Thus, I thought I would post a "What's in my beach bag?" post as well as the outfit I'm wearing tmrw. If you know me, you know that I overpack for EVERYTHING, I like to be prepared! So this may seem pretty extensive, but I'm never in a sticky situation - so I don't mind having a heavy bag haha!

This is my bag from Victoria's Secret! It's super old but I love it because it has extra pockets on the side and it's really big! (Perfect for someone who over packs like me!)

Girls Night!

Hey dolls!

I just spent the weekend in St. Catharines visiting my best friend and every girls' night needs delicious mixed drinks!

Don't worry guys, we aren't bartenders and these drinks were super easy to make :)

To make Sex on the Beach, all you need is a mixer, measuring cup (the little shot glass ones work fine), vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice and cranberry juice. Now a mixer isn't necessary, but it does make you feel extremely cool. Also, you can substitute orange juice with pineapple juice.

Travels | Hawaii Part II

Hello Loves! Sorry this post is so late, but I ended up getting sick for a week :( But I'm better now, so here is the second instalment of the Travel Series: Hawaii.

Day Four: VARSHA’S 21ST BIRTHDAY! Today, after breakfast in bed, we planned to go to a lu’au held at Paradise Cove.  So in the afternoon, we boarded a coach bus and headed to the venue. We got (shell) lei’d, and got free mai tai’s upon entering. After watching an introductory performance and the bringing out of the pig, we got traditional Polynesian tattoos, watched a fishing ceremony, made flower bands, and drank! We even saw a man climb a palm tree and release traditional Hawaiian flowers, which was a beautiful sight. By the time all of the events were done, we’d worked up an appetite so we sat down to fried chicken, macaroni salad, mahi mahi, and a taro roll while watching a show of Hula Girls and Samoan Fire Dancers. We both went up on stage and got hula certified! J After a long night, we headed back on the bus to the hotel. It was a great way to end Varsha’s birthday.

Fashion Fix | Work Event

Hey Dolls! A couple of months ago Shivani invited me to a work event, so I decided to do a little "Outfit Of the Night". The event was called "Damsels In De-Stress" (How cute?), and was held by Peel Children's Aid. It was a chic event, so I decided on a simple, casual, black & white ensemble.

·      SHINY LEGGINGS: Urban Planet $5
·      SHOES: Chinese Laundry – gift
·      CLUTCH: BCBG – gift
