Music Monday | Fireproof

Hello all! Today has been a very interesting day for the One Direction fandom.

Their team tweeted this this morning:

Which, in the midst of everyone hoping for a major rebrand & new music, got everyone riled up. Then, BAM, album title announcement. 'FOUR'. Although it seems a bit out of place with their past album themes, I like that it's short, sweet, and more mature. It's what we've been waiting for for a very long time.

But not only did they announce the album deets, they also released a FREE DOWNLOAD of one of the tracks called "Fireproof". This was a big step for them. Not only do they never do this (unless you've pre-ordered the album), but this is a great way for people that aren't fans to check them out with no strings attached. They're saying "Hey, check out our new sound. If you like it, cool. If you don't, you haven't lost anything."

Obviously I downloaded it and I was SO NERVOUS to listen. I was definitely having flashbacks to the 'Midnight Memories' nerves.

I've only listened to it a couple times now so, here are my initial thoughts:

- awesome intro guitar, love
- love the more mature melod
- LOVE the chill/california/beach boys-eagles vibe
- LIAM'S FALSETTO, PLEASE
- LOUIS' SOLO OH MY GOD

- is it possible for Louis to be any more delicate, honestly

- the angelic harmonies during the chorus are amaze
- the bass & background vocals are giving me slight Foster The People vibes
- I really like that it doesn't seem to be an overly produced pop song
- It's a vastly different vibe to their previous 80's hair band/Folk-Pop release, 'Midnight Memories'
- Liam was right, it does feel like driving down a California road on a sunny day

This band has had it tough for the past couple years. However the new website, the new pictures, & the new single makes me so happy that things are taking a turn in their 'direction'. They all seem so pleased with this one, and the fact that they finally got to surprise their fans (without a leak) for once is amazing. I'm so proud of em' for this. Good job boys!

I've been listening to it the whole time I've been writing this post, and my smile gets wider and wider, and I jam out harder and harder everytime it plays (yes, it's on repeat). It takes some listens to really take it all in.

You can download the single in the 'free download' link above. If you aren't a fan, try to chuck the 2011 teenage pop star perception out the window and pay attention to who they are now. Who knows, you might just like em'.

Have a good monday, kiddos!
