Revamp your room: Ikea PAX Wardrobe

Hellllllo darlings,

This fall I decided to make a bedroom in the basement for me because 7 people residing on one floor was getting a tad crowded. We cleared out a section of the basement and I'm almost all moved in. The nice thing about the basement is that my room is a lot more spacious. However, since it wasn't designed for a bedroom, there is no closet space. So I went looking online for wardrobes that would fit all of my clothes and be cost friendly.

I decided to get the Ikea PAX Wardrobe and it is the best decision I have made. It was a bit more than I wanted to spend ($700) but I like it because it's completely customizable.

So how the PAX wardrobes work, you first choose the frame for the wardrobe. You can choose between 4 colours of wood: white, white stained oak, birch effect and black brown. There are also 3 different sizes: 50cm, 75cm, and 100cm wide. I went simple and did two white frames that were 75cm wide, 58cm deep and 201cm tall. The next step is choosing your doors. You could choose sliding or hinged doors. You also had the choice between wood, glass, coloured glass doors, frosted, or mirrored doors or a combination of them. I opted for the mirrored sliding doors. Lastly, ikea has a variety of interior organizers to choose from. Different types of shelves, clothes rails, drawers, shoe organizers and pant hangers are available. I kept it simple and got the interior chest of drawers, three clothes rails and two grey glass shelves.

Revamp Your Room: Throw Pillows

    Helllllllo :) As we all know, I'm re-doing my room. It's been a slow process, but I'm finally getting the little touches that'll tie the room together.

     HENCE, this instalment of our Revamp Your Room Series: Throw Pillows. I love having tons of pillows on my bed. However, the cute throw pillows with monograms or quotes are all pretty much around the $25-$30 mark... SO I obviously decided to just make some myself! and here's how you can too :)

Revamp Your Room: Shadow Boxes

   Hello! Welcome back to the Revamp Your Room series! In our previous post, we showed you how to make some cool graphic art to brighten up your walls. In this next project, we’re dealing with shadow boxes!

   Shadow boxes are frames, however they have quite a bit of depth to them so objects can be placed inside of them as opposed to just pictures.  Seeing as my room is beach themed, and I’ve collected quite a large collection of lei’s (the flower necklaces commonly associated with Hawaiian culture), I decided to cut them up and fill some shadow boxes with the flower petals to create cool 3D art for my walls!

This project was super simple! Here’s what you need:

·      Shadow Box (I used 2)

·      Different coloured Lei’s/ Objects of your choice

Revamp Your Room: Graphic Art

Hello loves! Welcome to the second installment of the Revamp Your Room series! In our first post, we showed you how to give an old item a new take by simply using spray paint. In this post we’re tackling graphic wall art!

Graphic Art is super funky and is a great way to bring bright fun colours and cool shapes into your space!

For the graphic wall art project you’ll need:

·      Canvas, in whatever size you choose 

·      Three colours of acrylic paint

·      Painter’s tape

·      Paint Brushes

·      Sponge Brush

You can find all of these items at your local arts supplies store, such as “Michaels”. The canvas packages can range from $10-$25, depending on the number of canvases in a package. I got a 2-pack of 12x12 for $10, and it was 50% off! So keep an eye out for coupons and sales! The three bottles of paint I got at my local Walmart, for $1.97 each, and a package of paintbrushes (non-professional) and painter’s tape can be bought for around $6 each at your local art store.

Now that we have everything we need, let’s get started!

Revamp Your Room: Room Accessories!

            Welcome to the first post of our “Revamp Your Room” series! This is a series where we’ll be focusing on simple and cost effective ways to update your room décor. Sonia and I decided to redo our room and wanted to show you tons of easy things we’re doing in order to convey our beach theme, while being on a budget. In this first post, we’re dealing with room accessories!

            We had an oval shaped Victorian styled mirror in our main floor bathroom that recently got booted out for a bigger one. So, instead of “out with the old, in with the new” we opted for “in with the new, but revamp the old”.

            This is the mirror we’re sprucing up!

            It’s super easy to change the look of everyday objects. For this project we prepped our garage floor by laying down old sheets of packaging plastic and bubble wrap. You could also use plastic tablecloths or an old sheet. To paint, we used white spray paint and painters tape. You can buy spray paint and painters tape from your local home hardware store or Wal-mart for around $6-$7. Then we got to prepping and spraying the mirror!
